Volunteer – Surgery Resident
This was a very rewarding experience in which I formed part of a large 30 person multidisciplinary team consisting of plastic surgeons, residents, anesthesiologists, nurses and surgical technicians who went into the amazon jungle to a small town called Coca. We aided the underserved and indigenous population by surgically treating craniofacial anomalies, congenital hand deformities, severe burns and soft tissue defects. Several donations and extensive fundraising was needed to get all the necessary supplies to perform these surgeries. A total of 109 surgeries were performed in 5 days.
