Kybella is a non-surgical injectable treatment to help improve the appearance of the fat under the chin. The injection targets the fat cells and helps create a more defined profile, leading to a slimmer-looking appearance.

How Kybella Works

Kybella injections use a synthetic form of Deoxycholic acid to target fat cells below the chin. This acid is naturally created by the body to assist in absorbing fat. When Kybella is injected into the target areas, the acid stops the areas from storing fat.

Your treatment at Arroyo Plastic Surgery starts with a consultation. During your consultation, Dr. Arroyo will take time to meet with you and discuss your questions and concerns. He will also determine if you are a good candidate for Kybella. After this, he will design a customized treatment plan to address your aesthetic concerns. It may take several treatments to achieve your desired result. Before the injection process begins, you will be given a numbing agent to ensure you are comfortable during the procedure. Treatments often take between 15-20 minutes.

After your treatment, you should be able to return to your regular daily activities. Patients will often experience some swelling and may wish to use ice packs on the treatment area. It is important not to touch or massage the area.

Is Kybella a Safe Procedure?

Yes! Kybella is FDA-approved for treating fat beneath the chin. There are some potential side effects including, swelling, bruising, redness, and pain. Who Is an Ideal Candidate?

Good candidates for Kybella are over the age of 18, with moderate fat beneath their chin. Patients should not be pregnant or breastfeeding or have any infections around the treatment area. During your consultation, Dr. Arroyo will determine if you are a good candidate for Kybella injections and how many sessions may be required.

How Many Treatments Are Needed?

The number of treatments will depend on the amount of excess fat you have and your desired results. During clinical studies, most patients saw visible results after two to four Kybella treatments. Treatments can be spaced out about a month apart, and you are able to receive six over a period of six months. During your consultation, Dr. Arroyo can help determine how many treatments may be needed and how best to space them out.
